The Snake Pass Inn is named after the part of the A57 that winds between the hills of Kinder Scout and Bleaklow. The ‘Snake’ part of the name comes from the entwined snake emblem of the Duke of Devonshire, not the winding nature of the road. The inn is popular with walkers and cyclists, and has plenty of affordable accommodation. On Beer Barrel day, the competing teams can be seen attaching their barrels to various contraptions, including ladders, scaffold and bamboo poles, to enable them to carry this considerable load over the challenging course.
