Absence make the heart grow fonder – so they say. In this case it may just be absence that makes the mind (or memory) grow weaker. Consequently this is a warning to get your diaries out and reserve the 13th of September 2014.

A rejuvenated group of Edaliens have decided to get together to make sure this ridiculous event happens again this year. We know how much you missed it last year – silly buggers! We’d love to have you back again this year.

Right now this is just to let you know; so you don’t double book it, or so you have plenty of time to double book it, depending on your mental health.

We’ll send you more information later.

BEER BARREL CHALLENGE – SEPTEMBER 13TH

Sadly the Great Kinder Beer Barrel Challenge is not going to happen this year. But we do want the event to run again in 2014. It’s been pointed out to us that other great events, for example Glastonbury, do periodically have years off to rest and re-think what’s happening. We’re consoled by being in good company, so watch this space.

A lot of you, I know, have been very supportive and enthusiastic, so to you all, a big thank you for times past. Looking forward, we need to decide what this event is. Is it a quirky challenge that does some good for our local community, where we get together and do something completely pointless because it’s a physical and fun custom, then go and have a few beers and talk about it, or is it a fell race with an extra touch of gladiatorial excitement? You’ve got a stake in this! Help us keep it going. We’d love to hear what bits you enjoy and what you want.

Dark Peak Regain Crown in 2012

The 2012 Great Kinder Beer Barrel Challenge was another exciting event with glorious sunshine and 8 enthusiastic (at least at the start…) and committed teams.

After being narrowly beaten by Gladioli in 2011, Dark Peak returned with renewed determination (and some of the best Fell runners in the country) and managed to top the field with a time of 47:08. Gladioli were a clear second place with a time of 50:42. A steady improvement from Fat Boys Revenge saw them secure third place in 52.59.

First local team was Should Noe Better (the team formerly known as Fieldhead) in 58.04.

A big congratulations to the first (and only) ladies team Edale Ladies who not only managed to get the barrel over Kinder in 1:45.32 but did it in style… and luminous green tutus!

Gladioli Pip Dark Peak In 2011 Thriller

Gladioli came away victorious with a time of 0:48:44 just 28 seconds ahead of Dark Peak in a year of fast times for many teams.
